富山県の霊峰「立山」の杉で、県木に指定されています。立山信仰の神木杉で、樹高30ｍ幹回り5ｍを超える大きさまで育つ巨木もあるのですが、その大きさで雪の重みに耐えられるように根が強く育ちます。幹が太くなるのもその雪の重みに耐えられるために進化してきました。その強靭さから建築材としてもブランド化されております。

Origin: Toyama Prefecture (Prefectural Tree)
This cedar grows on Mount Tateyama, the sacred mountain of Toyama Prefecture, and has been designated as the prefectural tree. As a divine cedar associated with the Tateyama faith, some of these trees grow to over 30 meters in height and have trunks exceeding 5 meters in circumference. Their roots develop strong and deep to withstand the heavy weight of snow, and their thick trunks have evolved for the same reason. Because of this remarkable strength, the wood has become a branded material prized for construction.
