YEZO Spruce
蝦夷松（エゾマツ）

北海道の県木。常緑針葉高木で葉が細く尖っています。
古くから蝦夷松は神聖視されており、アイヌの伝説にも登場します。アイヌはこの木で弓矢を作ったといわれており、北海道では身近なものとして使われてきました。
家具や建築材にも使われますが、楽器の材料としてピアノやオルガンの響板やバイオリンの甲板にも使われますが、病気に弱く流通量はいたって少なくなっています。
花言葉は「ごきげんよう」というユニークな意味を持っています。

YEZO Spruce
Origin: Hokkaido (prefectural tree)
The Yezo spruce, the prefectural tree of Hokkaido, is an evergreen conifer with slender, pointed leaves. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as sacred and appears in Ainu legends. It is said that the Ainu used this wood to craft bows and arrows, and in Hokkaido it has long been an important and familiar material.
While it is also used for furniture and construction, its most notable application is in musical instruments, such as piano and organ soundboards and violin tops. However, because the tree is vulnerable to disease, its distribution has become very limited.
Its flower language (hanakotoba) carries the unique meaning of “Good day” or “Greetings.”
