琉球松（リュウキュウマツ）
産地；沖縄県
沖縄本島、トカラ列島、奄美黄島に自生し、樹高は25ｍまで育ちますが、台風の影響で実際は低木になります。傘上の樹冠で横に広がった成長をするのが特徴で、それは台風の風の力を逃すように進化しました。その為、琉球王朝時代より防風林として沢山植えられました。
葉は長さ10〜20cmと長く日本産マツに比べても長く、そして細く柔らかい。皮は灰黒色で乾燥地適応するため痩せた土壌や岩場でも育ち、酸性土壌に適応しました。

RYUKYU Pine
Origin: Okinawa Prefecture
The Ryukyu Pine grows naturally on Okinawa Island, the Tokara Islands, and Amami-Oshima’s Kikaijima. Although it can reach heights of up to 25 meters, in reality it often remains low due to frequent typhoons. It is characterized by its umbrella-shaped crown that spreads horizontally—an evolutionary adaptation to disperse the force of strong winds. For this reason, it was widely planted as a windbreak during the Ryukyu Kingdom era.
Its needles are 10–20 cm long—longer than those of other Japanese pines—and are thin and soft. The bark is grayish-black, and the species is highly adaptable, capable of growing in dry, nutrient-poor soil and rocky terrain, having evolved to thrive in acidic soil conditions.
